Richard Chung started dancing at the age of 14 in Granada Hills, CA, shortly before entering high school. His interest was sparked by America’s Best Dance Crew, which led him to start learning break-dance from YouTube tutorial videos and fellow classmates. Richard quickly adopted various other styles and began performing in cyphers and battles, joining a battle crew called Krooks and creating his own team – Elusive Movement. In his junior year, he joined a Glendale based choreography team by the name of Bad Banana Monsters and began competing across Southern California while also training at Movement Lifestyle, The Rage Dance Complex, and Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio.
During his time at UCSB, Richard acted as artistic director for Urban Dance Company and helped transition the team into the competitive scene. Richard regularly created choreography for the team and helped them expand to include free dance workshops for other students to include more of the local community. By his junior year, Richard had helped to create Urban's annual showcase as a way to connect various dance groups across the 805 area code while also raising funds for local non-profits. As a teacher for Everybody Dance Now!, Richard trained extensively with Kelli Forman and found opportunities to re-educate his dance training by working with many hip-hop master teachers, such as Shotyme and Cebo Terry Carr. Shortly after graduating, Richard joined Faction Dance Company as part of the Alias Dance Family based in Oxnard, California.
Currently, Richard is working at a local tech company in Santa Barbara and continues to dance with EDN! and Urban Dance Company. Richard enjoys teaching the most and hopes to continue spread his love for dance.
